The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is based on the belief that children already have a relationship with God, but desire to understand it and celebrate it more fully. The Catechesis uses Montessori teaching principles, specially designed materials, and inspiring presentations to introduce and ponder mysteries of the faith and help each child’s relationship with God flourish. The outcome is a profoundly personal and joyful expression of faith, unique to each child’s relationship with God.

The Work Cycle
We recognize the significance of the uninterrupted 3 hour work cycle in fostering deep concentration and a love for learning. Within this extended period, children engage in a wide array of activities across various areas of the classroom, including Catechesis of the Good Shepherd materials, Practical Life exercises that promote independence and fine motor skills, Sensorial activities that refine the senses and build cognitive awareness, Language exploration encompassing vocabulary development, writing, and reading, Math activities that develop numerical understanding, Music to foster creative expression, Geography and Science to encourage curiosity and critical thinking, and Art to stimulate imagination and self-expression.

Building Confidence and Competence
Through this comprehensive and intentional approach, children develop a well-rounded foundation, nurturing their spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional growth. The children:
• Love learning and working
• Have a sense of contentment and inner peace
• Are confident in their abilities
• Work through challenges
• Cultivate intrinsic motivation, and do not rely on outside validation to measure their worth
• Experience joy
• Discover the interconnectedness of all creation
We invite you to come see how we integrate the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, cognitive activities, and opportunities for social development in our peaceful classroom; to see purposeful, engaged, courteous learners joyfully experiencing a place that is just for them!
