Salmon in the Classroom
St. John Paul II CCS has been participating in the Michigan DNR Salmon In the Classroom program for several years. The salmon eggs get picked up at an assigned DNR location in the fall and are then released at an approved DNR water source in the spring. Students at JP2, grades 4-8, can participate in our EcoWarrior club, which is a club that focuses on conservation. The club participants are a part of caring for the salmon throughout the school year and the release of the salmon. The responsibilities include help with water testing, water changing, tank/equipment cleaning, feeding, and release. Every year, students are excited to watch the salmon as they grow through the stages of egg, alevins, and fry until they are released.
